Every time I sit down to write as Dark Blush, I’m reminded that balance is less about control and more about rhythm. I’ve stopped trying to corral my creativity into a single lane because, truthfully, my brain doesn’t work like that. I have AuDHD — inattentive flavor to be exact — so it's better to bounce around a bit instead of trying to force something and facing burnout.
That’s how I end up round-robining between stories, specifically between my main work and my erotic work. I can work on with multiple streams using my Pomodoro timer. It seems counterintuitive but it also works whenever I have writer's block even if I'm just reworking a scene. Setting myself down in a world for a while allows me to find the ways I want to build it.
Eventually, once the story gets about 1/2 to 3/4 way done, it's time for me to just lock into it to completion. For three to six weeks, every day I will return to the same story. I will continue to take notes when they come to me for other pieces, but I won't stop until the work is completed.
Dark Blush is a lot like exorcising my erotic thoughts throughout the day. Most cannot go into my regular work, so it's nice to be able to take the stories in my head and share them. It's much better to let them out instead of allowing them to roll around in my mind untethered.
